Learn it.
Break It.
Change It.

Can you imagine what next-gen social platforms might look like? How future news sources will evolve? How new communities form? If so, we want you.

Be part of an intensive student experience working with our Media Genius team. Participants will dive deep into the new media — encompassing everything from new platforms and emerging content formats to meme culture — and implications for all of us as citizens and communicators.

“This is the first application I’ve come across that doesn’t focus on your experience, but instead on who you are as a person in today’s society.”

Spring 2020 Participant

In this full-time program, you’ll work both independently and as part of a broader fellowship cohort that is as passionate about innovations in media and technology as you are.

What would you be working on?

Fellows will write, research, and synthesize information for projects and group discussions. You’ll dig into the good stuff — from memes to live streams to Reddit threads to niche low-code platforms and beyond. This research will take you into emerging online communities and how they grow.

What’s in it for you?

Beyond the opportunity to flex your creative (and strategic) muscle, strengthen your resume and network, you’ll contribute to Media Genius intel. Maybe even get a byline in our newsletter. And did we mention it’s paid?

Just the basics needed. Some basic background. A few questions to gauge your perspective on media, and what you’re passionate about.

Lean into interests and communities that matter to you.

Eligibility requirements

Rising juniors, rising seniors, 2021 graduates, graduate students, or equivalent are welcome to apply.

 What's the application like?

A few questions about you (the basics) and two that dig deeper into your own media genius. Plus a bonus question really gets your wheels turning. It could take as little as 15-20 minutes, or an hour or more if you’re like some of us. Regardless, just be you!

When will I hear back?

We’ll try to get back to you within 2 weeks.

What’s the time commitment?

Monday through Thursday, approximately between 9:00am and 5:00pm. We’ll share more details once Fellows are selected.

Can I do this and another internship?

We wouldn’t recommend it. This is a paid, immersive experience that you should expect to dedicate a good portion of your time to. If you’re spread too thin, it will affect your ability to be fully present with us. Six weeks isn’t a lot of time, and we have a lot planned!

What days am I expected to be available?

Monday through Thursday, approximately between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. We’ll share more details once Fellows are selected.

Is this paid?

Can I do this for credit?

Not yet! But if your school has an independent study or similar program, we’re happy to help you make that work.

What time zone will the fellowship operate in?

Great question! Given the location of our team and the collaborative nature of the program, the fellowship will be oriented around the Eastern Time Zone. Students living in adjacent time zones encouraged to apply.
